Performance Feeds clients in Western Victoria welcome the support and interest that has been shown, since the start of the year, for their quality livestock that have been prepared and presented with the highest of integrity.
It all started on the first week into the New Year at Hamilton saleyards with the opening of the 2016 western district weaner sales, buyers from all over the eastern states attended making demand for quality well developed feeder cattle high and a very welcomed 80 to 100c/kg improvement from the same time last year.
ANIPRO and WeatherPro clients have risen to the top again. This year three clients achieved the highest award for “Best presented pen” during the sale circuit.

After the great results everybody has had selling their weaner stock in January, Western Victoria and South East South Australia headed out to buy the new sires that will be used to breed the future generations of calves needed for next year’s calf crop. The flow on effects of these cattle price has been reflecting in bull prices with the producers focus being on investing in bulls to be used in rebuilding herd numbers and accessing export heifer markets.
Performance Feeds seed stock producer clients have showed this in their sale results in the past few weeks with our Angus and Simmental clients achieving some very solid results across the board:
Banquet Angus – Mortlake VIC – 91 bulls – total clearance to average $8,868 and a top of $21,000.
150 PTIC Heifers sold to average $2,411 and a top of $2,700.
Victorian Sale – 105 of 109 offered bulls sold to average $7,914 and a top of $17,000.

Woonallee Simmentals – Millicent SA – 93 Bulls to average $7,408 and a top of $27,500.
This much needed lift in the young cattle market has been a highlight on what has been a less than ideal Spring and Summer with rainfall well below our average. Quantity and quality of surface and underground water in most areas has become a major issue. It is promising and great to see our clients are still out there making the investment in the best genetics they can find that suit their target markets.
It is with the support of Performance Feeds that our clients are turning their genetic investment into the quality livestock that Southern Australia producers are so well known for and they are now reaping the income rewards that our clients deserve.
