Doug has been working in the animal health industry for the last 40 years for a variety of animal health/nutrition companies. He has had about 18 years with Livestock Nutrition Technologies responsible for new product development, Technical Services and Regulatory Affairs.
Doug’s first 15 years were spent on various research stations with ICI Animal Health, Coopers Animal Health and Coopers Pitman Moore. This work principally involved undertaking trials on potential new products to satisfy the regulatory authorities leading to the registration of new products. Product types varied from endo and ecto parasiticides, ruminant nutrition products including molasses block supplements, to novel products such as Biological Wool Harvesting.
Prior to joining Performance Feeds in August 2014, Doug pursued his passion for travel and target rifle shooting attending several Queens Prize shoots along the east coast of Australia.
Doug’s strong background in supplementary feeding with LNT has greatly assisted in expanding the number of clients in the Central and North Queensland area and in cementing relationships with existing Distributors and Dealers. The challenge of setting up additional Distributors in new areas is something Doug is looking forward to.

Leighton Hart has taken a somewhat different path in his Agricultural career. One which he says he would not change.
From the Classroom to the Dairy. Primary School Teacher to Dairy Farmer. Pungarehu, New Zealand to Deans Marsh Victoria Australia. Massive changes, changes Leighton has embraced and immersed himself and his family in.
Agriculture particularly Dairy is in Leighton’s blood both sides of his family have been involved in the dairy industry since the early 1920s in New Zealand. Leighton was brought up in the dairying province of Taranaki and was educated there and attended Massey University in Palmerston North and completed a Diploma of Primary Teaching. Leighton’s soon to be wife Karen, a dairy farmers daughter lured him away from the classroom to the paddocks of the family farm in 2002 and his dairying career began.
2004 saw a massive change for Leighton and his family as they along with Karen’s parents embarked on shift across the Tasman to dairy to Deans Marsh, Victoria. Over the next 15 years Leighton and Karen worked extremely hard running a farm business and raising a young family. Leighton and his Wife Karen added two more children to the family whilst in Australia and now have Lochlan 15, Maggie 13 and Lucas 9.
The farm and family have kept Leighton very busy as they expanded over the years to peak at 600 cows and farming on over 1000 acres. Leighton’s interest in the industry led him to applying for the Westvic dairy board, which he was elected to chair in 2014. Leighton enjoyed the challenge of working with Westvic understanding farmers priorities with regard to investing their levy dollars at a regional level into research and development.
Outside of the farm Leighton has been involved with school council, coaching sports teams, association sports committees , volunteer fire brigade. Leighton is a lover of all things sport and can still occasionally be seen playing the odd game for the Birregurra reserves football team much to his wife’s disapproval.
Leighton is passionate about agriculture and enjoys working with farmers. He sees his role at Performance Feeds as an opportunity to help farm businesses push the boundaries of their systems to achieve sustainable and profitable outcomes. Leighton believes in long term relationships that provide benefit for all involved. Leighton is an approachable, knowledgeable person. Don’t hesitate to contact Leighton to see how he and Performance Feeds can be of benefit to your business now and into the future.

Fifth generation cattleman and horseman with a lifetime experience in the beef cattle industry in both stud and commercial operations. I live in Central Gippsland in the foothills of the Baw Baw Ranges and operate the Karraba Park Stock Horse Stud as well as breeding a few beef cattle on leased land.
I have had 35 years experience managing beef cattle operations in NSW and Vic in both stud and commercial cattle operations for family and corporate companies. During that time I was very successful in breeding , preparing and exhibiting cattle at Regional and Royal Shows in the East States winning Championships in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne Royals. I have worked with many breeds including Murray Grey, Angus, Charolais , Hereford, Poll Hereford , Simmental , Gelbvieh and Red Angus.
I am an experienced judge of cattle and have regularly judged at National and International levels all breeds of cattle. I have also been involved in preparing and exhibiting steers in carcase competitions with memorable wins in the MLA weight gain and carcase trials at Rutherford Research Station. Our steers winning both 100 day weight gain and 150 day weight gain trials and also winning Champion and Reserve Champion carcases from over 300 entrants.
Following 20 years managing Ebony Lodge Pastoral Co. where I bred Gelbvieh and Red Angus stud and commercial cattle and managed the export of live cattle (Gelbvieh and Red Angus ) into China as well as sales of semen and embryos to numerous countries. During this time I started a small consultancy business advising clients on genetic management , pasture and grazing management. I stopped the consultancy business in 2010 following the dispersal of the Ebony Lodge Past. Co. following the sudden death of the managing director.
I then tried my hand at teaching Agriculture and Equine studies and after 2 years of teaching the lack of Agriculture students caused the College to drop the course. I was offered a position as Sales Manager of Riverbank Stockfeeds and with a background in cattle and also in animal nutrition I was able to achieve some excellent results. More recently I have been National Sales manager of Oilseeds Australia requiring lots of time away from home.
When the position with Performance Feeds of Regional Manager of Gippsland became available I thought it was a good fit for my knowledge and experience and also a huge contact base throughout Gippsland. I enjoy working with farmers to help them achieve the best results for their investment in supplements with excellent outcomes for their livestock.
I am looking forward to a long and successful association with Performance Feeds and continuing to grow and develop the business throughout Gippsland.
